Ever wondered about a career in a Special Library? Hear first-hand accounts from a panel of Special Librarians at the BayNet Annual Meeting! A diverse panel of librarians will discuss just a few of the wide range of topics which fall under the umbrella of Special Libraries.

Peggy Tahir works at UCSF working with clinicians and patient care providers. Peggy also is  interested in the alchemical processes of canning jams and jellies, a skill she gained with her mom. She now makes a prickly pear syrup that she sells to a local bar, where you can find her cocktail, “The Prickly Peg.” It’s her original homemade prickly pear margarita with a kick. When she's not doing that she's checking out local craft cocktails around SF (and craft brew and coffee), writing poetry, or working with heat guns and torches on encaustic paintings.

Meredith Eliassen works in Special Collections at San Francisco State University. As an avid life-long folklore enthusiast and history detective, Meredith has brought to life archival resources on palmistry, the literary contributions of Josiah Allen’s Wife, fairy tales of the Early Republic, and music of the California Gold Rush.

Taryn Edwards is a Librarian and Member Relations and Marketing Specialist for the Mechanics' Institute in San Francisco. When Taryn is not working for the Mechanics' Institute, she spends her days in hot pursuit of a dead man and her evenings taming her toller and terrier.

Mark Mackler is a librarian for the California Department of Justice in the Attorney General's Law Library. Mark notes that like many librarians, he chose librarianship as his second career.  After teaching junior and senior high school for 11 years in Massachusetts, Mark wore a chicken suit to his final day teaching 9th graders.  The die was cast.
